So, today, we are going to take some time to look over the evolution of the deck, from the very first days of the Modern format up until now, where the deck is so good that some people are suggesting that it may need to be targeted with a banning. Even though the rise of Dredge as a true tier-one deck is relatively new, some form of Dredge deck has been floating around in Modern for years. For the past few months, it has been firmly in the top tier of the format and at times has been the number-one overall deck in Modern. We can play all 5 colors meaning we have access to the best and cheapest anti hate cards like pending, alpine moon and ancient Grudge which help shore up its worst match ups other then 4 color blink.Dredge is all the rage in Modern. Dredge is at an all time high and can win on turn 3 when not interacted with. Okay so those are the bad things here some good news. We also are weaker to ds bc they now playjng drown in the lock which counter spells are even better now and doubles are removal spell and they can look hate with Larrus. Another thisng is endurance and sacrifier and dvw in the main meaning we lose game one supremacy. Furtherore it's omnath who make the aggro almost impossible after turn 3. The main weakness to dredge rn is free interaction in the form if fon, solitude and fury and that they can be combined with blinl effects. Okay so dregde is still good you can still -3-2 or better with it. Dredge is a good deck, it's certainly capable of winning, but it can't really naturally rise to tier 1 as a result of natural format churn until it gets some new tools or the metagame moves in a different direction that's more favorable for it. Tier 2.5 sits just one notch below those decks, and that's where stuff like Scales, Affinity, and Dredge are right now. I don't think dredge is bad per se, at least not in the same way that a deck like Gifts Storm is bad, but I do think it's firmly receded into tier 2.5 status I don't think there are any truly oppressive or centralizing tier 0 decks, and the tier 1 decks of the format basically consist of Hammer, whatever the best Solitude deck is that week (between U/W, money pile, Elementals, Yorhinos, etc), and the DRC/Bauble Deck of the Week, with tier 2 consisting the churned-out DRC Bauble decks, the unfavored Solitude decks, Belcher, Mill, Burn, Living End, Rhinos, Yawgmoth, Titan, Tron, and Mill.
